I’ve been wanting to create a blog post about someone who represents an enormous part of what makes Boca Raton a special place to live: Mr. Gordon Gilbert. I feel particularly lucky because when I was a Park Ranger with the City of Boca Raton I was privileged to work the Saturday Morning Gumbo Limbo shift. That gave me opportunities to get to know Mr. Gilbert as a person.

Many of us who went to school in Palm Beach County simply remember him as the “nature field trip guy”, the guy who told us about the mangroves and what’s living in the Intracostal, but did you know Gumbo Limbo was created by Mr. Gilbert’s hard work and vision? It’s an amazing place now, a true gem in Boca’s crown, and we have Mr. Gilbert to thank for it.

Tomorrow on May 19th there’s going to be a dinner at Boca Greens Country Club honoring Mr. Gilbert, at 6pm.

Please join the folks who are recognizing Mr. Gilbert and if you can, support the Gordon Gilbert Scholarship Fund.

What are your favorite memories of Mr. Gilbert?
