Fishing lines, food wrappers, straws, balloons, bottle caps and much more greatly affect coastal habitats. This year, Boca Save our Beaches has partnered with World of Scuba, Beer Trade Co. and Islamorada Beer Company to take part in a cleanup of the mangroves and beaches of Boca Raton, providing protection of our marine environment.
Here is the scoop:
Join the community of Boca Raton for a coastal cleanup on Saturday, September 24th. Beginning at 8AM, volunteers will meet at the north entrance of Spanish River Park, located at 3001 N. State Road A-1-A for check in.
After registration, the race will be off for collectors of the most trash. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be awarded various prizes, valued up to $500. Additionally, every volunteer in the cleanup will receive a raffle ticket to be entered into a drawing for another fantastic prize: FREE beer for up to 10 guests presented by Islamorada Beer Company.
Volunteers are invited to enjoy discounted brunch, brews and networking with neighbors after the cleanup at Beer Trade Co. located at 2151 N Federal Hwy in Boca Raton. Prizes will be handed out here and attendees must be present to win.
Free scuba diving courses presented by SDI (Scuba Diving International) will be raffled off benefiting Divers 4 Heroes, a nonprofit dedicated to the recreational rehabilitation of our nation’s wounded veterans utilizing scuba diving as therapy. World of Scuba will be awarding prizes for participants and raffle winners.
Don’t forget to come prepared. You will need a bottle for drinking water and closed toe shoes. Bug spray and sunscreen are always a good idea as is dressing appropriately for the weather.
