Girmay claimed silver in the 3000m steeplechase at the Olympics in Tokyo three years ago. He has also claimed three world championship silvers since 2019. He is the world record holder for the steeplechase with a time of 7:52:11 which he set in Paris last year. And Girmay is also the indoor record holder for the 3000m with a time of 7:23:81.
