Our recent fundraising plea has been met with a very strong response. To those who have contributed, thank you. We will put the money to good use. To those who have not, or are still thinking about it, we urgently need your support to continue the fight for sensible development in Boca— development which takes into consideration the opinions and needs of Boca’s residents.
Since my last report, we have seen further progress on the Mizner 200 project. You will recall that at our urging, the City Council (sitting as the CRA) refused to approve the project (we called it “The Monster on Mizner”) on July 24th, urging the developer to sit down with concerned residents and work out a compromise. Since then, architects for both sides have been conferring and the developer appears to be willing to make concessions. We urge the City Council to hold firm until they are presented with final design improvements which make the building “harmonious” with its neighbors and provides improved views and vistas. We fully support the consultative process, which could serve as a paradigm for future development in Boca. And there is plenty of THAT in the works: Midtown, Royal Palm Plaza redevelopment, buildings on our beaches, etc.
Again, thanks to all of you who responded to our plea for financial support. To do this properly, we need legal help, and that does not come cheaply. Donations can be made by credit card on our website BocaBeautiful.org. Checks can be mailed to Barbara Stone, 500 SE Mizner Blvd., Apt. A-109, Boca Raton, FL 33432.
