I liken voter fraud to shoplifting.  We all know it exists, but very few people see it.

Yet, it is so pervasive, that stores like Walmart have to include it in their business plans to open a new store, so they can ensure profitability.

In fact, Walmart has two numbers it keeps track of: customer shoplifting, and employee inventory reductions.

This happens because no matter how advanced a society becomes there are small numbers of people at the fringes who just like to step outside the boundaries of the law, or think they have some moral higher purpose.

So, does voter fraud exist? Come on. If you think it doesn’t you are delusional. The simple fact is that we do not cover it in the news.

You may not believe me, and that’s fine. But the very next question is “how bad is it?” or “it is not enough to throw an election!” Okay I can promise you Bush v. Gore was decided by voter fraud. The number of votes that separated the two of these candidates was so low at the state level that you can guarantee at least that many people voted who should not have.  Now we don’t know who they voted for… but that number is much smaller than the potential voter fraud in a statewide election.

In fact, if you assume 1% voter fraud nationwide in the 2016 election, and you were to spread it across four states, you could change the election outcome.

In MI there were many precincts that could not be recounted.

What can we do about it?  First, I believe voting day should be a holiday. Second, I believe that high school kids should volunteer to monitor and report at precinct locations, as part of their civic duties. And finally, there should be a poll monitor (or two) at every single precinct whenever voting occurs.  These poll monitors are basically like having a monitor while tests are being taken, to ensure nobody is cheating.  Imagine a precinct that is in a heavy “Independent” precinct.  Imagine every poll worker there is also an “Independent” and they believe their candidate is just and right, and deserves the position, and that if their precinct does better for their candidate that they will win the election. Finally, imagine they have no supervision, and there will be NO AUDIT of their numbers after they are turned in.  (And if there is going to be, they, like the MI workers, knew how to force the precinct to NOT get recounted through damaging the boxes), so there is NO chance anyone will get into trouble.

What can possibly go wrong? Yet we have thousands of precincts nationwide that can be described this way. And we have party level coordination to ensure some of this happens.

So, having monitors who are not corrupt there to monitor would solve a big piece of this. And it was expected people would do this, but nobody talks about it (I only learned about it through the party I was voting for, and I became a monitor, and I cringed at how things were done).

Finally, we should audit our elections. And in random precincts EVERY SINGLE VOTER who voted should be contacted, and the date/time/method of their vote should be confirmed.  Because ballot stuffing usually requires going back and marking people as having shown up to vote (which is why dead people get marked as having voted). And these audits should have consequences!

But we are not serious about election fraud. Our duly elected officials scoff at the idea of even doing 2 basic things. I want you to think about this. And maybe contact your SOE (Susan Bucher or Broward’s Brenda Snipes), and let them know they really should be doing these things.

First, if an absentee ballot arrives and they cannot process it because they actually know the person is dead, it should be forwarded on to the FBI for investigation to determine if two potential criminal acts have been committed.  First, voting with someone else’s ballot, and second, mail fraud.

Second, when you register to vote you check off a box affirming under oath (risk of perjury), that you are in fact a US citizen  Now, when someone gets invited to Jury Duty, they can check off a box (under the risk of perjury) that they are NOT a US citizen.  Now, if they were selected because they are a  registered voter, then you have a clear cut case of perjury.  And if they have ever voted, they have committed voter fraud if they are truly not a citizen. Now Palm Beach County uses Drivers license, but those trigger a voter registration for many so it should still be checked!

Seems pretty simple. Seems like it would be effective. Do you think they are doing it? Ask them. But ask them for the numbers, and the FBI case numbers, or the DA case numbers, or who they referred them to, because my experience is that these elected officials may just say “yes we do that” to blow you off!

The SOEs like to report that there is NO Voter Fraud.  This belies common sense and reality.  The truth is that they have not prioritized clean elections!

By the way, when people talk about recounts, they act like those are audits.  They are not.  A recount cannot find illegal votes, or ballot stuffing.  In fact, in MI where ballot stuffing probably took place, they could NOT recount those precincts, and the official numbers do not get challenged when, in fact, they should have to remove that precinct’s entire results from the election totals as non-certifiable results, but they don’t.

Until we, the people, demand more of ourselves in monitoring our government of elected officials, can we blame them for keeping the status quo, which apparently is working well for them?

  1. Another diversion from the real problem. Voter suppression, based on Republican legislatures gerrymandering districts is the real problem and Herr Drumpf’s bullshit panel to investigate voter fraud is another move to screen the “Russian” investigation. I would venture a guess that voter fraud in Boca Raton is a non issue.

  2. This guy is delusional. I have worked the polls for over five years. We go out of our way to insure honest and valid elections. I cannot attest to what goes on elsewhere, but it would be a very sad day in America and for our democracy if there were so much voter fraud.

    • Due to a communication problem, the links did not get posted with the original article, and are posted below.
In Broward county, for example there are multiple lawsuits filed and being looked into. People found in a backroom copying ballots WITHOUT following procedures (the law), and WITHOUT a canvasing board.

Approx 100K Mail Ballots were OPENED with no canvasing board to approve the signatures.

Try working some other polling locations. In the 2 precincts I worked for the first time, I saw people NOT following the rules on confirming signatures, as well as letting someone literally come in with multiple different voters and TRY to NOT fill out a voter assistance form for each new voter. As well as someone using a PAPER PHOTO COPY of a drivers license to vote.

Here’s the point. UNTIL we find a solid way to AUDIT our elections, like stores AUDIT their inventory. We will NEVER KNOW the extent of voter fraud. But pretending people are PERFECTLY HONEST in this ONE AREA of their lives, when there are literally no audits, and it’s hard to bring a lawsuit is really ignoring the facts.

  3. The very small percentage of “voter fraud” that exists has become an excuse for extensive voter suppression of minorities in Republican held districts. The greater concern, and one that legitimately brings the conversation back to Boca Raton, is the issue of campaign finance and PAC’s, particularly when it comes to the influence of developers on campaign funding. A candidate for office may purport to represent the voters and make promises allegedly on behalf of said voters, but if you want to know who they are really work for, follow the money.

  4. No real proof offered. Yes voter fraud exists, but hardly ever in terms of people who present themselves at the polls. It happens more with vote by mail. Yet, the legislated remedies offer no additional restrictions for those voters. Why? Mail in voters are mostly Republican. Wake up, people. This is morally bankrupt, undermines basic civil rights, and ais a waste of taxpayer money that will end up meaning that people won’t get health care . . .yes, even Republicans.

  5. The headline of this article states, “Voter Fraud: Undeniable…. Here is the Proof!” As I read the article, I saw a good bit of opinion, but not any proof. I’d suggest that BW either edit the headline or corroborate the content.

  6. This is the second instance in the past month where Boca Watch has featured a poorly reasoned, polemic on a highly partisan issue that has nothing to do with Boca Raton.. (the previous one was on sanctuary cities). As a supporter of BW I feel compelled to ask what has happened to its original purpose? There are plenty of web sites that offer partisan diatribes on national issues. I have supported BW for its information on issues that are directly relevant to our community. Has there been a mission shift?

    • Joe, we are taking bullets from the submitted article and highlighting them for attention. Boca Watch is a open forum for residents to voice their views and maybe we ventured outside boca issues but some folks are saying their was voter fraud in last election. Which is insane . No one at Boca Watch thinks that there was any significant voter fraud. Myself personally I am incensed that someone has implied voter fraud in nov boca elections. But who am I to censure their opinions.

      • I get it Jack, for sure. And I have been, as you know, a supporter of BW. And opinions of all ilk are OK. I was simply commenting on the headline, particularly the term “Undeniable”. Opinions are one thing, “Undeniable” is another.

    • Bill, there has not been in my opinion a mission change. What you are asking us is to censure comments and/or stories that other readers feel are relevant to boca. Sanctuary cities is probably not on most boca residents minds but someone thought it could be. We will not censure stuff unless off the wall. We are a forum that you will not find anywhere else. There are about 20 folks that volunteer and we are very diverse in our opinions especially politically but we have respect for everybody. We have been doing this for about 5 years and built up our readers to over 25 ,000. and shooting for 50,000 by next year. We don’t think we can do by restricting topics but by encouraging everybody to get involved. It is your city. Don’t let anyone or especially developers or PAC’s steal boca from you.

      • Thanks Jack, but sorry to disagree. The editors, at least last time I saw, created the headline for articles such as this. A more plausible headline would have been, “Voter Fraud: One man’s opinion” rather than “….Undeniable…. Here is the Proof!”

    • I will agree with you there.
We vote for candidates, and rarely is a good AUDIT preformed.
But then the elected officials have to PANDER to Lobbyists every day, to keep their coffers full. And then when it comes time to vote, is it any surprise that they support what their fund raisers want more than their constituents.

Also, as a state, we have gotten a little better. And we are far better than some states. But it exists, and we need to volunteer, and show up to help keep the elections clean.

Like shoplifting. People don’t tend to do it when they are being watched!

  7. Jack, I am not asking you to censure materials submitted to Boca Watch. My concern is with the mission of the site. I think that it is reasonable to expect that a site called Boca Watch will focus on issues that are directly related to the Boca community. Your comment seems to imply the site is open to almost any topic that its readers find interesting and is not “off the wall.”. The model you describe is more of an open forum than of a site that keeps an eye on goings on in a particular community. The title “Boca Watch” clearly implies the latter.

    • Bill, Thank you for your thoughtful comment(s). Perhaps some material recently may be a bit afield to BocaWatch’s primary mission. We are experimenting with identifying topics that may be of interest to the broader audience. One criticism recently raised was that BocaWatch’s coverage was becoming stale and repetitive. Since the election, we have been attempting to expand the subject matter and the contributing writers. Your feed back is very appreciated and useful to determine the direction expanding our editorial content. Al Zucaro

    • Bill, ok you win. We will try and do better in the future. Hey we are not perfect. What is most important is we appreciate your involvement. Thank you.
